I made a mistake... but I found Jesus...

By now, you have probably heard about the NFL professional who was found to be involved in a dogfighting enterprise.

As the story developed, we were shocked to hear that Michael Vick was also accused of being involved in torturing, hanging and drowning dogs.

Today, he gave an apology that was broadcast on the major news outlets. We won’t post his entire apology... just one comment that interested us:

Dog fighting is a terrible thing, and I did reject it. I’m upset with myself, and, you know, through this situation I found Jesus and asked him for forgiveness and turned my life over to God. And I think that’s the right thing to do as of right now.

Hmm... isn’t it interesting how people get in trouble and suddenly they find Jesus.

Paris Hilton was another who got in trouble and... lo and behold... she found Jesus.

We don’t know for sure, but it looks as if she lost Jesus as soon as she got out of jail...

So the question is... did Michael Vick have a conversion experience as a result of this... or was he like another Mike... Mike Tyson... who had a quote-unquote “conversion” in a Baptist church... only to walk outside the church and away from his confession after the smoke had cleared.

Selah.

GOD OF JUSTICE: NEW VIDEO & FREE SHEET MUSIC
When I read the bible, one thing seems abundantly clear; God is passionate about the poor. Jesus made it so clear … “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor (Luke 4:18) In Amos 5, God's heart burns with anger as He rebukes a people who offer up songs of worship and other choice offerings, but trample and deprive the poor for their own selfish gain. We can't escape the truth – God's heart breaks for the last, the least and the lost. If I want to glorify God in all that I do, then issues of justice and the poor need to be at the core of who I am...More

HOLDING NOTHING BACK SONGBOOK
This songbook includes Piano/Vocal/Guitar Sheet Music, Lyric Chord Charts and Overhead Masters for every song on Tim's new album Holding Nothing Back.

If there's a single word that aptly captures what Tim Hughes has been about—where his heart's been over the last three years leading up to his latest album, Holding Nothing Back—there's no better touchstone than passion. The emotion runs deep through the 11 new worship songs Hughes has composed this time out; it infiltrates the instruments, washes over his voice, fills the very room. And on the surface of things, those are more than enough reasons why Holding Nothing Back is full of great new songs you can immediately use in your worship services...More

ATTITUDES OF A WORSHIPPER
Recently, I've been thinking again about the importance of our heart attitudes. When involved in leading worship it can be so easy to lose focus and concentrate on the less important things. There can be a temptation to get so carried away with trying to create the best sounds and songs that we forget about our own attitudes and motives. Although it's essential that we give our best shot to being as musical and creative as we can, we must never forget the simple meaning of worship. When thinking about the attitudes of a worshipper, King David provides an excellent example. I have been challenged by the way he lived his life and want to briefly look at a few of his characteristics.

First, David had a heart after God. He actively pursued and hungered after God. One thing we often see David doing is 'inquiring of the Lord'. A great example of this was when...More

Juanita Bynum Assaulted

The Washington Post reports that evangelist Juanita Bynum was badly beaten by her estranged husband in the parking lot of an Atlanta hotel.

This is sad on several levels -- but mostly because it gives a “black eye” to the gospel message, causing the enemies of the Lord an occasion to blaspheme.

Let us pray for the evangelist, the situation, and all parties involved.

God Loves Me

You should remind yourself at least once every day of the Father’s love for you. God loves you. His love is not phileo love -- love that implies some friendship or kinship. His love is not eros love -- love that implies some attraction. No, His love is agape love. He loves the unlovely. He loves those who hate Him. His love is the highest love... and He loves you with that love.

Let the following scriptures touch your life today... and every day.

Do not be seized with alarm and struck with fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom! [Luke 12:32 AMP]

For you shall eat [the fruit] of the labor of your hands; happy (blessed, fortunate, enviable) shall you be, and it shall be well with you. [Psalm 128:2 AMP]

Show me a sign of [Your evident] goodwill and favor, that those who hate me may see it and be put to shame, because You, Lord, [will show Your approval of me when You] help and comfort me. [Psalm 86:17 AMP]

24The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you; 25The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you; 26The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually). [Numbers 6:24-26 AMP]

I shall not die but live, and shall declare the works and recount the illustrious acts of the Lord. [Psalm 118:17 AMP]

A note from Robbie about the song - If you're like me, you spend your days searching for God…waiting on His next move, hoping to get a glimpse of what He will do next. And I'm sure God is going, 'Hello…the sunset yesterday, the laughter of your children, the homeless man asking for food, the lightning storm this morning? Wake up.' This song comes from a sermon that one of our pastors gave. Healing Scriptures

Some of you may have read the article by Annie Lobert about her father’s health crisis. So many others have written about sickness and disease in their families. John 10:10 tells us that satan comes to kill, to steal, and to destroy. But, praise God that Jesus came that we might have and enjoy life in abundance... to the full... until it overflows!

If you have been challenged with health problems, then you can take hold of the word of God and see Him work in your life. Dodie Osteen, Joel’s mom, was diagnosed with inoperable liver cancer years ago. She read a number of healing scriptures three times a day and God miraculously healed her. She is still serving the Lord... sitting in Lakewood Church watching her baby boy pastor such a large congregation.

Are you challenged with illness? Take courage! The following scriptures will bless you mightily!

Exodus 15:26
He said, “If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you.”

Exodus 23:25
Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you.

Deuteronomy 7:15
The LORD will keep you free from every disease. He will not inflict on you the horrible diseases you knew in Egypt…

Deuteronomy 28:1-14, 61
If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God: You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock--the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed. You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out. The LORD will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven. The LORD will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The LORD your God will bless you in the land he is giving you. The LORD will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the LORD your God and walk in his ways. Then all the peoples on earth will see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they will fear you. The LORD will grant you abundant prosperity--in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground--in the land he swore to your forefathers to give you. The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. The LORD will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the LORD your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. Do not turn aside from any of the commands I give you today, to the right or to the left, following other gods and serving them.
The LORD will also bring on you every kind of sickness and disaster not recorded in this Book of the Law, until you are destroyed.

Deuteronomy 30:19-20
This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

1st Kings 8:56
Praise be to the LORD, who has given rest to his people Israel just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses.

Psalm 91:16
With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.

Psalm 103:3
Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits--who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.

Psalm 107:20
He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.

Psalm 118:17
I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the LORD has done.

Proverbs 4:20-23
My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to a man’s whole body.

Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 53:4-5
Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.

Jeremiah 1:12
The LORD said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.”

Jeremiah 30:17
But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the LORD, `because you are called an outcast, Zion for whom no one cares.’

Joel 3:10
Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears. Let the weakling say, ‘I am strong!’

Nahum 1:9
Whatever they plot against the LORD he will bring to an end; trouble will not come a second time.

Matthew 8:2-3
A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cured of his leprosy.

Matthew 8:17
This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases.”

Matthew 18:18-19
“I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.”

Matthew 21:21
Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.”

Mark 11:23-24
“I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

Mark 16:17-18
“And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”

John 10:10
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Romans 4:17-21
Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead--since he was about a hundred years old--and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.

Romans 8:11
And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.

2nd Corinthians 10:4-5
The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Galatians 3:13-14
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

Ephesians 6:10-17
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Philippians 2:13
...for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.

Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

2nd Timothy 1:7
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

Hebrews 10:23
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

Hebrews 10:35
So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.

Hebrews 11:11
By faith Abraham, even though he was past age--and Sarah herself was barren--was enabled to become a father because he considered him faithful who had made the promise.

Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

James 5:14-15
Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.

1st Peter 2:24
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

1st John 3:21-22
Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him.

3rd John 2
Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.

Revelations 12:11
They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.

Mission Impossible

“By faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained the testimony that he was righteous, God testifying about his gifts, and through faith, though he is dead, he still speaks.” (Hebrews 11:4 NASU)

Now faith is hearing, believing and obeying God. Knowing God is a just God we must believe that He gave both Cain and Able instructions concerning the sacrifice. Able followed God’s instructions and it was reckoned to him as righteousness. Rather than following God’s instructions Cain devised his own plan---he did what he wanted to do and totally failed in his efforts to please God.

“By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.” (Hebrews 11:7 NASU)

Noah was warned of a devastating flood that was to come upon the wicked and then was given instructions to build an ark; Noah heard God, believed Him, and built the ark according to God’s instructions. Thus he “became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith;” he was pleasing to God.

“By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going (Hebrews 11:8 NASU).”

Abraham was called and given instructions; he heard, believed and obeyed, thus it was reckoned unto him as righteousness; he was pleasing to God.

Before ascending into heaven Jesus commanded His disciples not to leave Jerusalem until they had been baptized in the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:5). And then He added,

“You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even in the remotest part of the earth.” (Acts 1:8 NAS)

The disciples followed His instructions and did as He had commanded. They waited in prayer and one accord; not knowing when the Holy Spirit would come but never doubting that He would.Ten days later, on the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came anointing all who had been faithfully waiting for Him (Acts 2).

Under the anointing of the Holy Spirit the apostles began to speak with great power and authority. As the people heard the anointed preaching they became convicted of their sins and cried out,

“Brethren; What shall we do?” (Acts 2:37)

With these instructions,

“Peter said to them, Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38 NASU)

Three thousand heard the message, followed the Spirits instructions and by “grace through faith” they were added to the church that day.

Throughout the Book of Acts we read accounts of the Holy Spirit giving instruction to our Lord’s Apostles; they followed these instructions with great success.

“And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” (Hebrews 1l:6 NASU)

To take a “leap of faith” without instructions from God is to take on a mission impossible. One may meet with some success or even great success in the eyes of men and self but he cannot be pleasing to God.To please God one must receive the gift of faith.

“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17 NASU)

The word of God quickens the spiritual ear and causes the soul of man to hear His instructions. When the hearer believes these instructions and acts upon them he has received the gift of faith; thus he is pleasing to God.

“For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” (Romans 8:14 NASU)

And there are those who take off on their own without instructions from God (take a “leap of faith); or like Cain, have instruction but do not follow them but do their own thing. These are on a mission impossible.

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS’” (Matt. 7:21-23 NASU).

Our heavenly Father tells us to seek Him and He will reward our efforts with instructions for living a life pleasing to Him (Hebrews 11:6).

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1 NASU)

Temperance Meeting

A minister was completing a temperance sermon.

With great emphasis he said, “If I had all the beer in the world, I’d take it and pour it into the river.”

With even greater emphasis he said, “And if I had All the wine in the world, I’d take it and pour it into the river.”

And then finally, shaking his fist in the air, he said, “And if I had all the whiskey in the world, I’d take it and pour it into the river.”

Sermon complete, he sat down.

The song leader stood very cautiously and announced with a smile, nearly laughing, “For our closing song, let us sing Hymn #365...

“Shall We Gather at the River.”

Psalm Eight

David, as great as he was, had much weakness and saw many troubles. In times of his troubles and weakness he would often return to God with praise to draw strength. As he looked upon the things created by the hand of God he was reminded of God’s great power and glory. In this hymn of praise, David marvels at the majesty of the Lord, and is reminded that He even uses the weak infants of man to confound the wise and defeat His adversaries. Then it seems that he ponders the question, what is man that God would take thought of him. He reminisces the splendor of God’s creation and then his thoughts turns to the fact that He had entrusted all these wonderful things to the dominion of man.

O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth, Who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens (Psalm 8:1 NASU)!

David begins by acknowledging our Lord as Lord of all and the greatness of His name in all the earth and that He has displayed His glory above or greater than the heavens.

From the mouth of infants and nursing babes You have established strength because of Your adversaries, to make the enemy and the revengeful cease (Psalm 8:2 NASU).

Now it seems that he begins to marvel at the fact that God has used the mouth of babes (the sons of men---see v. 4)) to establish strength to overcome the adversaries. (See Matthew 11:25; 21:14-16; 1st Corinthians 1:27).

When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained; what is man that You take thought of him, and the son of man that You care for him (Psalm 8:3-4 NASU)? (See Hebrews 2:6-9).

When David considers the stupendous work of God’s creation his thoughts are of man who may be seen as no more than a speck of dust in comparison, but yet God has high regard for him.

Yet You have made him a little lower than God, and You crown him with glory and majesty (Psalm 8:5 NASU)!

Here, in verses 5-8, his question is answered. David views man, created in God’s image, as “a little lower than God;” for “the creature is not greater than the Creator;” for God is the sustenance of the image (Genesis 2:7); thus man is the “crown jewel” of all God’s glorious creations.

You make him to rule over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea, whatever passes through the paths of the seas (Psalm 8:6-8 NASU).

David acknowledges that God esteem man and gave him the high office of ruler of the earth and all that was in it. In doing so he gave man dignity above all other creatures.

O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth (Psalm 8:9 NASU)!

There is no doubt that with these thoughts David is humbled, but yet strengthened knowing that God loved him, and thus He ends as he began, with a note of praise.

Exorcise Selfishness Today!

Father, in the name of Jesus, I repent of and renounce selfishness, and take responsibility in my generations for the sin of rebellion. I ask for forgiveness and break the curse of stubbornness. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. I desire to follow the Lord my God with my whole heart. In the name of Jesus, I decree that I have an excellent spirit, which enables me to do courageous feats in God’s Kingdom according to the grace you have given to me. Amen.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right, persevering, and steadfast spirit within me.
(Psalm 51:10 AMP)

7Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh-barnea to scout out the land. And I brought him a report as it was in my heart. 8But my brethren who went up with me made the hearts of the people melt; yet I wholly followed the Lord my God. 9And Moses swore on that day, Surely the land on which your feet have walked shall be an inheritance to you and your children always, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.(A) 10And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years since the Lord spoke this word to Moses, while the Israelites wandered in the wilderness; and now, behold, I am this day eighty-five years old. 11Yet I am as strong today as I was the day Moses sent me; as my strength was then, so is my strength now for war and to go out and to come in. 12So now give me this hill country of which the Lord spoke that day. For you heard then how the [giantlike] Anakim were there and that the cities were great and fortified; if the Lord will be with me, I shall drive them out just as the Lord said.
(Joshua 14:7-12 AMP)

But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land into which he went, and his descendants shall possess it.

Spiritual Check-Up

“I am praying...your body is as healthy as...your soul.” (3rd John 2 TLB)

We all know how important physical health is; here's a plan for keeping your soul in shape:

  1. Don’t question your faith, question your doubts. We spend too much time dwelling on our misgivings, experiencing faith as an occasional flash-in-the-pan. God's promises are for believers.
  2. Don't be a “lone ranger.” It’s no accident that the Old Testament contains the story of God’s people, and that the Epistles were written to congregations. We grow as we relate - not isolate!
  3. Guard your thought life. If your “thinking is controlled by the sinful self, there is death. But if [it’s] controlled by the Spirit, there is life and peace” (Romans 8:6 NCV). Practice mind management!
  4. Fall asleep and wake up immersed in gratitude. It will transform your day. “In every thing give thanks!” (1st Thessalonians 5:18).
  5. Ditch anything that distracts you from God. Toss the junk reading material, and if you have got the guts, throw in the TV!
  6. Always err on the side of mercy. Philip Yancey writes: “I marvel at the humility of a God who descends to live inside...his ‘flawed’ creatures... Do I show that same attitude towards people of whom I disapprove?”
  7. Be specific and don’t revert to generalities when discussing your faith. Paul wasn't “ashamed of the Gospel” (Romans 1:16); neither should you be.
  8. Be gracious to the people who irk you. God chose them too! Sometimes it is easier to be gracious to non-believers than to uptight, moralistic Christians. But that just makes you a different kind of judgmental.
  9. Forgive those who’ve hurt you. Harboring hatred hinders healing, so bring your hurts to God.
