Another Year Around the Mountain?

It is hard to believe that more than a decade and a half has passed since I wrote the verse that appears below. Before I wrote it, I remember having gone through some major shifts in my life.

I had previously moved half-way around the planet, thousands of miles away from my parents and the life I knew. My church and friends were time zones away. I was now with a pastor whose teens were, at that time, yowling babies. But it was also a time of reflection.

I realized that I had to seek God... and I did so. Unfortunately, I also sought other things. But only that which was built on faith in Christ lasted.

I looked back over my life and realized what I needed to do. It is strange that, all these years later, I look back over 2008 and have the same exact thought.

How long have I been circling the mountain? Well, much less than the 40 years that the children of Israel did. Perhaps, this time... I will be ready to enter the promised land.

I choose to believe that will be the case.

One year ago i wanted to be known
For all my talents and my gifts

To be recognized and praised by the people
And receive the fruits sown by my flesh

That was oh, so long ago; an eternity it seems
Now that Jesus is true Lord i gave away my dreams

Ah, yes...

All my dreams just fade away like dust
In the light of true commitment to the God i trust

One year ago i wanted to be lord
over my life and wear a crown

And give God a little place in the corner
Where I’d visit Him from time to time

That was not so long ago; only yesterday, it seems
But today i serve the Lord; submit to Him, my King

Ah, yes

All my dreams just fade away like dust
In the light of true commitment to the God i trust

So then, any of you who does not forsake (renounce, surrender claim to, give up, say good-bye to) all that he has cannot be My disciple.

2008 End of a Great Year

We have seen a number of things happen in our world as the 21st Century continues to progress. And what word has been on my heart as the year winds down?

I have the feeling that the church needs to wake up. There are things we have gotten preoccupied with:

  • Building big churches
  • Pursuing political agendas
  • Materialism
And yet, there are some vital things that we have forgotten:
  • Justice
  • Mercy
  • Walking humbly before our God
I read that the attacks of 9/11 were a wakeup call... and yet the church continues snoozing. Now, the world is on the brink of economic collapse as entire industries go bankrupt. And all we hear from the churches is the sawing of logs.

I hope that we can wake up during 2009 and pray for the peace of Jerusalem... pray for laborers to go out to the harvest... pray that Jesus will come quickly.

A Thought For The New Year

God whispers in your soul and speaks to your mind.

Sometimes when you don't have time to listen, He has to throw a brick at you.

It's your choice: Listen to the whisper, or wait for the brick.

Worry...

“Boast not yourself of tomorrow; for you know not what a day may bring forth.” Proverbs 27:1

Psychologist William Morriston, reported that 94% of the 3,000 persons he surveyed were enduring today in order to get to tomorrow.

Do you know anyone like that?

Perhaps you are one of those.

Tomorrow, you’re going on vacation.
Tomorrow, you’re going to get the house cleaned.
Tomorrow, you’re going to start your diet.
Tomorrow, you’re going to balance your checkbook.

Tomorrow... tomorrow... tomorrow...

The only problem is tomorrow never arrives! When it gets here, it is today.

And today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday. It is always today.

What are you worrying about?

It’s time to ask His forgiveness and give Him your concern.

He is more than able to handle it.

Worry is pulling tomorrow’s clouds over today’s sunshine.

Worry about nothing!
Pray about every thing!!

Worried about what 2008 will bring?

God-
- knows your future!
- holds your future!!
- and is your future!!!

Enter the New Year with Him!
Goodness and mercy shall follow you!!
